Welcome to Sion !
For the Swiss Capital of the Alps, it is a joy and a proud to host the AXA Open de Sion. After two editions in Sierre, the tournament puts its rackets in Sion for the greatest pleasure for amateurs of this sport particularly popular in our city. That's who will remind many Sédunois of the beautiful hours of the Fed Cup, where we were able to welcome Martina Hingis, Patty Schnyder, Amélie Mauresmo and other great champions.
The Open de Sion 2023 gives pride of place to young Valais, Swiss and foreign players. This is a privileged opportunity for the next generation of tennis players to compete and gain experience. We bet that tasting the pleasure of clay, under the good guard of our two castles, will leave them with lasting memories.
Thank you to the organizers who offer us this great opportunity. Seeing champions play is a source of inspiration and emulation. Thanks also to the Tennis-Club de Valère which will host the competitions. With its magnificent infrastructure, this historic club in the capital is one of the most dynamic in the canton and is committed to training.
I salute here the very good collaboration that we have with the club to offer an initiation program for children.
To become a good tennis player, we are told, you need solid technique, good physical condition, a strong mind and hours of training.
Setting up a competition requires without just as much commitment and perseverance.
To the organizers, the players, their families, and above all to the public, which I hope will be numerous, the city of Sion wishes the most beautiful of tournaments.
