This summer, Valais takes a major step onto the international tennis stage: Sion joins the ATP calendar with its first-ever ATP Challenger tournament, supported by AXA. With this addition, Switzerland further strengthens its presence on the pro circuit — alongside established stops such as Geneva, Gstaad, Basel, Lugano and Zug — by welcoming a new week of high-level competition in the Rhône valley.
Dates, venue, and what to expect
The AXA Open de Sion 2026 will take place from 16–22 August 2026 at TC Valère in Sion. Over seven days, the tournament will host singles and doubles draws featuring Swiss and international talent typically ranked around ATP 100-350.
Positioned one week before the US Open, the event is designed as a perfect moment in the season: a chance for players to collect valuable ATP ranking points, build confidence, and gain match experience at a demanding level — while giving fans in Valais a front-row seat to the intensity of the professional tour.
From local ambition to ATP Challenger
The Open de Sion is also a story of momentum. What began as a strong national project has grown into a tournament with international reach. The event evolves from its ITF roots into an ATP Challenger 50, with $60,000 in prize money — a significant step up that reflects both the tournament’s ambition and the commitment of its partners.
Behind that growth is a long-term vision: to create a meaningful platform for competitive tennis in Valais, while contributing to the development of Swiss talent.
A collective project powered by strong partners
An ATP tournament doesn’t happen in isolation. The Open de Sion is built through a collaboration between key stakeholders across sport and community: AXA (title sponsor), the Canton of Valais, the City of Sion, Five Sports Management, Valais Tennis and Swiss Tennis.
Together with the local club ecosystem and the international framework of the ATP, these partners are helping establish a new annual highlight for the region.
Youth, community, and a week that goes beyond the court
A defining theme of the Open de Sion is its commitment to youth development and community engagement. Alongside the matches at TC Valère, the tournament aims to bring tennis into the city through activities and animations that celebrate sport more broadly and strengthen the event’s connection with the public.
It’s also a chance for the entire Valais tennis community to take part — whether as fans, clubs, families or volunteers.
Call for volunteers: be part of the adventure
To deliver a world-class week, the Open de Sion will rely on the people who make tournaments come alive. Volunteer roles will be available across the event, including ball kids, line judges and support roles within tournament operations
If you’ve ever wanted to experience professional tennis from the inside, this is your opportunity to be part of a new chapter for sport in Valais.
See you in Sion
With its ATP Challenger status, international field, and a clear commitment to youth and the Valais tennis community, the Open de Sion 2026 (16–22 August) is set to become a standout summer rendez-vous — both for players preparing for the US Open and for everyone who wants to feel the pulse of top-level tennis in Switzerland.
