Welcome to Sion !

For the Swiss Capital of the Alps, it's a joy and a source of pride to host the AXA Tennis Open. After two editions in Serre, the tournament is returning to Sion to the delight of fans of this sport, which is particularly popular in our city. This will remind many Sion residents of the glory days of the Fed Cup, where we welcomed Martina Hingis, Patty Schnyder, Amélie Mauresmo, and other great champions.
The 2023 Sion Open, meanwhile, showcases young players from Valais, Switzerland, and abroad. It's a unique opportunity for the next generation of tennis players to compete and gain experience. We're sure that experiencing the pleasure of clay, under the watchful eye of our two castles, will leave them with unforgettable memories.
Thank you to the organizers for offering us this wonderful opportunity. Watching champions play is a source of inspiration and emulation. Thank you also to the Valère Tennis Club, which will host the competitions. With its magnificent facilities, this historic club in the capital is one of the most dynamic in the canton and is committed to training.
I would like to commend the excellent collaboration we have with the club to offer an introductory program for children.
To become a good tennis player, we are told, you need solid technique, good physical condition, a strong mentality, and hours of training.
Organizing a competition undoubtedly requires just as much commitment and perseverance.
To the organizers, the players, their families, and especially the spectators, whom I hope will be numerous, the City wishes the most wonderful tournament possible.
