Day 2 Recap: Rain Delays, Swiss Battles and Bernet’s Grit
Day 2 at the Open de Sion started under a bright sun, but the weather had other plans.
Just after lunch, rain showers swept in and forced a pause to all matches. Thankfully, the courts dried up by late afternoon, and play resumed with plenty of energy and anticipation.

The top seed, Patrick Zahraj, set the tone for the day with a commanding win over American qualifier Kyle Overmyer, taking the match in straight sets, 6-4 6-2. Zahraj looked sharp and confident, living up to his number one status.

The afternoon was all about Swiss showdowns. Nicolas Parizzia faced off against Damian Wenger, while Johan Nikles took on Edouard Aubert—giving home fans plenty to cheer for and delivering some intense, tightly-fought rallies.

But the highlight had to be the young Swiss star, Henry Bernet. After his junior Grand Slam success, Bernet showed real grit and determination, battling through a tough three-setter against Italy’s Maximilian Figl. Both players put on a show with some spectacular points, but it was Bernet who found that extra gear to clinch the win in the deciding set.

Despite the rain delays, the atmosphere around the club was buzzing, with fans sticking around to support their favorites and enjoy a day full of tennis drama.

Stay tuned for more action and stories as the tournament continues—there’s plenty more to come in Sion!
